Studio Technician (Part Time)

We are a growing community clay studio focused on creating a welcoming, hands-on environment for both beginners and experienced ceramic artists. Our space supports classes, workshops, and independent makers, and we take pride in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient studio.

We’re looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Studio Technician to support daily operations behind the scenes. This role is essential to keeping the studio running smoothly, ensuring materials are prepared, kilns are managed properly, and student work is handled with care.

Responsibilities

  • Mix and maintain glazes according to studio standards

  • Operate and maintain the pug mill, including clay reclaim

  • Load and unload kilns (bisque and glaze firings)

  • Sort, organize, and label student work

  • Maintain cleanliness of workspaces, tools, and equipment

  • Monitor inventory of studio supplies and flag restocking needs

  • Assist with general studio upkeep and organization

  • Communicate with staff and assist with student pickup notifications as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience operating a pug mill and managing clay reclaim

  • Experience loading and unloading kilns, with understanding of firing processes

  • Experience mixing and maintaining glazes accurately and safely

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently

  • Working knowledge of studio safety practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a community or teaching studio environment

  • Familiarity with different clay bodies and firing schedules

  • Strong workflow or studio organization skills
